Things Lately

I haven't posted in awhile, my my. Some Updates. Some older that I just haven't mentioned, some pretty new as of this week......

-I am really enjoying my advising experience with RHA (Residence Hall Association). They are kind of equal in relevance and campus presence to SGA, except with all of its general delegation primarily in the residence halls(however, RHA & SGA will be working together more this year) RHA is a very organized, powerhouse group of students that really, in essence, get their shit done. It is always nice to work with a group of students that have that quality-the last time I worked with a group like this was when I was a grad student- SLDB (shout out acford), and they were fantastic. Could pull an amazing program out from nowhere and took that extra initiative, and also were passionate about what they were doing. It is interesting to observe the exec board and how they work with one another, see them growing before your eyes. It makes my job really rewarding.

-I found out I will be attending GLACURH (Great Lakes Affiliates of College & University Residence Halls) in November at Central Michigan University with our RHA delegation, and I will be able to finish my Advisor Recognition and Training Certification at that time. From CMU I will go straight to Fort Wayne for GLACUHO ( Great Lakes Association of College and University Housing Officers) for some quality professional development time and to make my big presentation with another colleague. YES a majority of my field is acronyms, in case you were wondering. This will be my second GLACUHO, I am really looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and networking with some Cleveland/Chicago institutions ;-)

-I am finding my second year full of different challenges. I am taking a bit more responsibility and leadership within the department and with my colleagues. It can really be intimidating at times-everyone has extremely high standards and the slightest thing can put you on the shitlist. I have a new graduate assistant that can be challenging to work with and guide, but I take it day by day. We have had an increase in alcohol issues off-campus and roommate conflicts, which isn't common for my building. But overall, I am good.

-I applied for a working group within Delta Gamma Executive Offices, targeted towards college housing and housing standards for collegiate women. I am hoping my past alum activities with the Case Western chapter and my job experience will land me a spot.

-If you have been following my Twitter updates, then you may have noticed I have picked up knitting. I am knitting a lot, and have also started a knitting circle with one of my RAs and a desk worker on Sunday nights-we are hoping to add more folks to the group! I am on my second scarf, and am excited about the yarn I found at Hobby Lobby the other day. All GORGEOUS fall colors! It is incredibly calming.

-I have a meeting with a former professor in a week or so to discuss some options about getting my university teacher's certificate, with a focus in women & gender studies. I have no idea how the meeting will go and if I will even be able to work something out. We shall see.

-Dating is annoying and I don't like it. I kind of have settled with knowing that I most likely will not meet anyone here and that part of my life will take charge once I leave Muncie and take the next step. I am pretty ok with it.

-I found a dance studio! Finally. It is similar to mine at home, but their advanced girls seem to be at more a high intermediate level. They compete a lot and have an annual recital each year. I went and saw it in June, it was decent. Nevertheless, the ballet class I am in is excellent and will still work me hard. The teacher's name is Libby-she is a dancer in Dance Kaledeiscope in Indy, and fantastic. I am hoping it helps in getting my technique where it needs to be before I audition in December for the Muncie Civic Theatre show.

I was pleasantly surprised with myself this past Monday, I walked in knowing everything would be off and I would look like an idiot. But my balance was good, my turns were fantastic, my extensions were eh, but not terrible, we got to do two waltzes, and I nailed the sissone combination. My direction is a little off-in terms of quick movements and jumps, but it will get there. Just comes from being out of it for awhile. My calves and quads are killing me today, so that is a good sign. I was exhausted after the class-the rest of the girls had pointe after, and I was like wtf I could never do pointe after this. I would love to get back to pointe, but my ankles are nowhere near strong enough, and the shoes I bought last aren't right for my feet. I am still bitter they discontinued the shoes I used to wear-they were so perfect and comfortable, took me pairs and pairs to finally find them. It felt so amazing to be in class again and to be channeling my mental energy into perfecting a combination rather than how to maneuver yet another difficult roommate conflict.

-I need to lighten my tv watching. I get so addicted to everything and there are like 10 diff shows I watch-it is so easy to do that when you have DVR. I feel wasteful when I watch so much tv. But hence, I am still crazy excited for LOST, and that I can watch Bravo TV on my Ondemand now.

-I haven't been home since Fourth of July. I may not make it home until TGiv. That's nuts. I really miss my sister. And my dog.

-I have added some pretty apartment pieces. I want to paint some more canvases for my bathroom, but I don't know what to paint. I got a new shower curtain that is white with the flower eyelet detail, so pretty.

That's all I can think of. Kind of a lot, but not really at the same time.

Coming up: some Fall shopping extravaganzas (only if I buck up and actually go spend $$$ on myself)!

I agree with Ashley.

You sound like a busy lady!
But that's good!
At least you are enjoying it.
That's important.
