Sunny Sunniness
California was full of......
-Airport traveling. Lots of cowboy hats. (all layovers were in Texas)
-Harry Potter Book 6
-San Jose State University touring. Hung out with Stace in her office for a bit, then headed off to Orientation. Helped Staci facilitate her parent roundtables that afternoon, and it was fantastic. We are such student affairs geeks.
-the BEST MOJITOS I have ever had at happy hour following Orientation. The guac wasn't bad either. yum.
-Palm trees. Tall ones. Taller than the ones in the Carolinas.
-Meeting super fun hall directors from UCLA. (All folks in student affairs associate with other folks in student affairs everywhere we go, its nuts)
-Explaining what people in the Midwest do to the same hall directors that seemed intrigued by the lives that non-Californians lead
-Starbucks. Lots.
-Tattoos. Yup. Got one. Now I just have to grow a pair and show my mother.
-Almost flaking out as the needle is about to touch my skin
-San Francisco and all its glory. People really live there. omg.
-Drag queens, naked old men, saggy breasts, drag queens, rainbows, exuberant flamboyancy everywhere, drag queens, sexual acts in the street, alcohol, thongs, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, more drag queens, feather boas, tiaras, beads, "You look so fabulous!!!" " You look FEROSH!" and yes, more drag queens. All of this was experienced at San Fran Gay Pride.
-Sleep
-Mental cleansing
-Meaningful and emotional conversations
-Pinkberry
-Indian food (my first try!!)
-Jamba Juice (heaven)
-Pacific Ocean. First time I saw it in Santa Cruz. For you movie buffs, the 80s vampire classic Lost Boys (with young Kiefer) was filmed in Santa Cruz. It is the perfect California beach town. So quaint.
-Mountains
-Santana Row (A way upscale Easton)gorg.
-Pearl tea. They have these tea shops where you can get these amazing tea concoctions with Pearls-they are made of gelatin or something, and if you take them out of your drink they will seriously bounce off the floor. I had a cold almond milk flavored tea with pearls, it was delicious.
-Hotness. It was about 100 every day. Without humidity, but still hot.
-Beautiful people. EVERYWHERE
-Mercedes and Jaguars. EVERYWHERE.
-With all its beauty and splendor and surrealness (after seeing Cali countless times in movies and TV, I was finally there!!)I realized my heart will always belong to the Midwest.
There is tons more. Seems like a lot, but we crammed a lot in! I will never forget it, but I will be back. I need to see the Twin Peaks and the Golden Gate Bridge :-)
Love to Stace and Deb!!
