Papi
A close family friend died this weekend. I have grown up with this family, they used to live across the street. The older sister and my sister were best buds who drove to school together, the son and I were childhood best friends and secret crushes, and he still to this day will always "watch out" for me and come to my rescue when needed. The whole family is just incredible, seriously the nicest people ever. Heather and I were pretty close with the extended family, as ours were far away in Chicago-so the Aunts, Grandparents, and cousins became family to us as well. Papi, the grandfather, was seriously the sweetest man in the world. He would always wear Dockers and a newsboy hat. He had a husky voice and always smelled of Black & Milds. He was kind of muscular, so if you are visualizing this, he kind of looked like Popeye. And he ALWAYS, ALWAYS had candy for me in his pocket. Butterscotch candy or Butterfinger bars. He knew I would be waiting for it. He even had some for me when I was at Jimmy's HS graduation party. Mom & Dad went to the wake today, and Heather went to represent the both of us.
I missed all of them. I love them. RIP Papi!
