An ode...

So, many of you may know that a big part of my life and one of my most favorite things ever is my sorority, Delta Gamma. Call me typical (and maybe even annoyingly nerdy, its cool) but I love it tremendously and anything that reminds me of it or any way it enters my life is a small celebration. Many women that join sororities do it for different reasons, and can either stay involved post undergrad or forget that it was ever part of their life. They may remember only the social aspects-the drunken fraternity parties, their seemingly magical frat guy bf that lavaliered them yet unfortunately broke up with them 2 weeks later, the time they played a mean trick on their house mom, the smoking gossip sessions in between recruitment rounds, the week of composite stealing they played back & forth with their favorite fraternity, the list goes on. But for me, it is the complete and #1 reason I discovered my line of work and landed in the career that I will be in probably until I retire. I think that is really important, no? It also taught me invaluable leadership & interpersonal skills. The first year I lived in the house was one of the hardest, trying times in my life-imagine living with 42 emotional, ever-developing, overdramatic & complex-personality women. Along with a few of my closest girls, we came into the house naive & introverted and left proud, confident, extroverted & proactive women. Although I can remember a few negative and heart-wrenching experiences, the 2-3 years I lived in the house were some of the best I ever had. It didn't stop after I moved off-campus, I continued to live with some of the afore-mentioned girls and be at others' often. Every summer into Fall I think of the women & the house, the summers were always amazing and we were in recruitment mode-a crucial time for any respectable sorority. I am still close with a select few ladies and all of our pledge classes of course use Facebook to keep in touch, has been a wonderful tool in that respect. Here are a few pics to give you a sense of a prominent time in my life...

*to my fellow DG readers-the house has been completely renovated and decorated. The money used for these repairs mysteriously appeared after us being told time and time again that there was money for anything by House Corp & alum, soo......yeah.

We <3 painting the rock. I was Rho Gamma director that year.

Our house from the back. I lived in most most upper left hand room. Picture of it below...

This was the Alpha Xi house, right next to ours. We hated the AZD's and they hated us. Has been that way since the beginning of our time at BGSU in the 40s and will remain that way forever. We don't know why. But I still dislike them.

An engraving in the foyer hallway floor..

The kitchen. We spent lots of time here. Yum.

Bulletin boards line the wall on the bottom floor. They have them seperated for Pledges, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Totally cute.

The formal room. We had a few rituals in here, a lot of recruitment stuff...

Wall in Sisterhood room. We watched tv together in here and ate...

Second floor hallway, all of our rooms were lined up on both sides.

This is my friend Megan's old room. She lived right across from me.

An old composite...

Hil & Suz w/another composite in our study.

My old room! GOD I loved this space. My absolute favorite, I made it my little nook.

First floor hallway. Our colors are pink, blue, and gold so the hallways reflect this. I am unsure about this new paint job, but it beats the hideously ugly wallpaper that lined all the hallways before...

Our main eating area. Another paint job I am not sure about, but whatever.

A pretty table that was made, in the Sisterhood room...

The sitting area in the Sisterhood room....

The girls outside taking pics...

Close-up of the anchor. Every DG house nationwide has an anchor outside of it. A majority of them are donated by the United States Navy. Many have tried to steal it, but its bolted to the ground, that thing ain't goin nowhere. LOVE the recruitment door decs that are still there on the front..ha.

Another house pic.

Hope you enjoyed taking a glimpse into my past and indulging in a little of my nostalgic nerdiness.
