Blah de blah de blah
Imagine, for a second, a classy, elegant gown. Or, a traditional Louis Vuitton bag. It is timeless. It speaks to you. You know it will be in style forever, you can always go back to it. It is relatable. You feel comfortable with it, beautiful in/with it, and it is just simply exquisite.
Now imagine, take that dress or bag and add things to it. "Frosting" if you will. Rosebuds, ruffles, bows, a tacky sweetheart neckline maybe, tons of sequins, rhinestones, gems, tiny mirrors, whatever. The dress or bag no longer looks like itself. Its overdone, novelty, tacky, unrelatable, just a whole pile of wtf happened to that beautiful piece of fashion?
The elegant dress/Louis Vuitton bag is the Sex and the City series, probably even the first movie. Sex and the City 2 is the cupcake version.
I wasn't exactly surprised this was my review, but it is still disappointing, nonetheless. But please, still go see it. I am interested to hear what others think.
**Note** The only thing that I liked about it was that my said celebrity doppelganger, Cynthia Nixon (who plays Miranda Hobbes) has never looked more DROP-DEAD gorgeous. I never was sold on her look, but she carried herself wonderfully throughout the movie. I read an article interviewing Patricia Field (who has done the costuming from the very beginning) in the NY Times Style blog and she mentioned how much Cynthia had gone under an inner & outer transformation. She was so fulfilled & happy with her life, and it showed throughout filming. I can totally see that playing out. Everything about her was just beautiful, was totally blown away.
